Over the past few weeks, news headlines have focused on two major world events: the 2008 Taiwan election and the outbreak of violent unrest in Tibet. Inextricably tied to both is the Beijing Olympics, whose kick-off torch relay has stirred the emotions of protesters and supporters alike throughout the world.

While pundits, politicians, and academics have had their say about the meaning and impact behind Taiwan and Tibet, there’s one voice missing.

Yours.

Please join us for a student-led conversation about Taiwan and Tibet, as we examine the Chinese American and Taiwanese American perspectives on both events.

An average of 2000＋ people have attended each event during the past 5 years.

Held for 22 years, Tokyo Night is the largest Asian event held in Los Angeles.

The mission of Tokyo Night is to produce a entertainment experience that consist of the latest music, trends, and pop culture of Japan. This is something that has never been done before.

Taiwanese Sports Event

Recall the school field days every child must go at least once for the life-time experience? And that we were all tirelessly making every sweat valuable on the field. A trophy will not just honor the person winning the race, but also the group he or she represented. In honor of the 2008 Beijing Olympics this August, CSUF-TSA and UCR- ICA decided to team up to initiate our 1st ICON Olympics. We would like to invite all ICON members to join us for a fantastic, exciting and rewarding Sports Day!!

Admission fee:
Audience: No Charge
Competitor:
$3 for 1 activity
$8 for all (6) activities

Courses:
Every course will have its own champion(s) , and prizes will be given all together at the end of the day. Except for the warm up exercises.

For Everyone:
健康熱身操 Warm up exercises

For Teams’ Competitions:
1. 接力賽 Relay
Teams of seven (7) people. In a bracket series, selected teams race and the winning team advances to the next round.
2. 拔河 Tug-of-war
Tournament will be performed in brackets. Two teams of seven (7) at a times compete and the winning team advances to the next round.

For Individuals Competitions:
1. 短跑 (男/女) Sprint
All contestants run at the same time at the whistle and the fastest to the goal is the Winner. However, males and females run separately in two (2) races. That is, two (2) Winners; one boy and one girl.
2. 麻布袋/ 塑膠袋 比賽 Gunny/ Plastic bag Jump
Contestants race across the field while their legs are placed in a bag .
3. 障礙賽 Obstacle course
Individual contestants complete their courses through a series of challenges and obstacles. In case of a failure at an obstacle, contestants must repeat until he or she accomplishes the task. The fastest to the goal is the Winner.
4. 三人四腳 4-legged race
Each team of three (3) people ties their feet together and runs. Winner is the fastest threesome to reach the goal.

Prizes
1. 短跑 (男/女) Sprint: Each Winner receives two (2) movie tickets
2. 麻布袋/ 塑膠袋 Sack/Trash Bag: Winner receives one (1) Surprise Prize
3. 障礙賽 Obstacle Courses: Winner receives one (1) Surprise Prize
4. 三人四腳 4-legged Race: The winning team receives a Starbucks gift card
5. 拔河 Tug-O-War: Each member of the winning team receives a $40 value surprise (total of $280 value)
6. 接力賽 Relay: Each member of the winning team receives a $40 value surprise (total of $280 value)

Food:
Milk Tea, Lemonade, 烤香腸, 煎餃.湯圓/滷肉飯, Hot Dog, 杏仁豆腐/布丁…
(Admission/Registration fees do not include the expense of food and drinks)
